My Career
The photo on this page is of my favorite place: Honolulu. I adore the beaches, the ambiance and the beauty of the place.
I am currently an author. My memoir was published in May, 2021. Outside The Spotlights: Conversations With Unsung Creators Behind the Screens in Hollywood presents 37 career stories of innovators I worked with during my entertainment career. My next book, Creating a Career in Entertainment, Collaborating Behind the Spotlights in an Evolving Industry, was published in October 2024.
My most recent full-time position was as IT Director at 21st Century Fox, where I acted as leader for teams responsible for multiple business and film/TV distribution apps, including the industry-leading FoxFast site.
Prior to that, I was Senior Producer for the top levels of Disney.com and Executive Producer for Hollywood Entertainment Corporation's three public web sites: Reel.com, Hollywoodvideo.com and GameCrazy.com. My team publicized movie and video game content for more than 1 million monthly site visitors in support of over 1800 Hollywood Video and Game Crazy stores nationwide.
I also served as Speaker Committee Chair for the Portland Creative Conference and consulting producer for several interactive media titles. My background includes education experience from my position as creator and Director of the Course Development Group at Cenquest, Inc., a developer of online MBA degree programs. My team produced original video, audio, graphics, instructional designs and program code for more than twenty graduate courses.
Employed by four major Hollywood studios during my time in LA, I ran departments responsible for implementing management and operational systems. For example, as Director of Information Services for the MCA Television Group, I pioneered the introduction of personal computers for television productions, including Miami Vice, Magnum P.I., Coach and Murder, She Wrote.
I ran my own company, EMS and Associates, Inc. and served in roles that included: Producer for Entertainment Drive, an online entertainment publisher; Co-Chair of the first conference on creativity for the International Interactive Communications Society; author of articles such as "The Ultimate Screenwriting Software Review" for The Writer's Guild Journal; presenter for the Television Academy event Interactive Hollywood: New Jobs, New Media, New Markets and teacher for a UCLA Extension course entitled Interactive Creation - Design, Production and Distribution.
I remain an active member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Interactive Media Peer Group and the Producers Guild of America New Media Council.
My professional writing assignments have included: author for a 2016 press release for the mermaid animation in the Tom Bradley International Terminal Environmental Media Experience at LAX, researcher and book proposal writer for an autobiography by TV Director James Sheldon and content author for entertainment news site Reel.com (a November 2003 feature entitled "A TV DVD In Every Home," and DVD reviews for Moonstruck, The West Wing - The Complete First Season, 24 - Season Two, All That Jazz, Bruce Almighty and The Sting).
